Hmmm . . . about fencing class

My feet are unhappy, y'all.

As in painful and swollen. Cannot tell if it's a flare or a sports injury from fencing class. I do know that limping on two feet does not balance out into a normal gait. And looks less like a drunken sailor than limping on two bad knees (as has happened in past flares).

I may need to reconsider class on Tuesday if things aren't completely rosy by Sunday.

Sounds like you've got a flare up.

Too bad it sounded like you were having fun with the blade.

That's what I'm thinking, too. Figures.

Of course, I had no clear idea how strenuous fencing was going to be, or I wouldn't have had the chutzpah to sign up for it in the first place, but having done so, I was hoping I'd make it through.

Uh-oh... the classes did sound pretty intense, though...
It would be good to rest a bit- and then just see how you're doing. Don't want things to get any worse. Are you drinking plenty of fluids after your work-out?

Fluids - check.

I know that the muscle soreness in my abs is exercise-related. My feet, however, are likely an RA flare. Woe.

Yikes- sorry, Kelly.
And despite the *woe* factor here, your icon made me spit my milk out this morning- through my nose... ;)
Hee hee.

That's pretty much what I've been doing! I have read (and re-read) Sarah MacLean's new book, Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake, and I just read Soulless by Gail Carriger, and I'm now reading Sense & Sensibility for a meeting next Saturday.

:(

Limping on two feet is no fun (having done it all fall, I speak from experience--now I'm down to one, which is much better.).

Limping on two feet is so much weirder than limping on two knees. Limping on two knees results in a Popeye-like gait, which is at least moderately humorous. Limping on two feet looks far more pathetic and results in especially weird manoeuvres on the stairs. To say nothing of the difficulty in figuring which is the best footwear. (I find I'm better in shoes than out - barefootedness doesn't offer any cushioning at all. And last night, I was barefoot but in jeans for a bit, and had to roll the bottom of the pants up because they were hitting the tops of my feet, which also hurt.)

I have to wear shoes all the time. Clarks Waves only.

I'm hoping to get back in normal shoes eventually after my PT (starts Tuesday) because the Clarks are awesome but at $100 a pair, I have only two pairs of shoes to wear, which is a bit limiting fashion-wise. (And I really couldn't afford the second pair, but I couldn't wear black Mary Janes all summer. Well, I guess I could.)

I am hopeful of making it back to that class, but the rational part of my brain is going "you really shouldn't . . . "

Awww, sorry. It sounded like fun. But I really wondered about that half-hour of running at the beginning. You're not auditioning for Robin Hood!

You are correct. It might have been fun, but it appears that I'm not going to be able to complete the class.

Hope you feel better soon! Try some KT tape! It is wonderful stuff. I had shin splints SOOO bad and ran an entire 5K in it, and it worked beautifully. You can go to their website and learn how to tape for different injuries. Now take some Aleve, ice yourself down, and feel better soon!! {{{HUGS}}}

Thanks - because I've got rheumatoid arthritis, I can't just ice & tape and go, but feeling better sounds like an excellent plan!

Not much, but it's to be expected - a flare comes quickly and leaves at a snail's pace.

When I heard how rigorous the class was, I worried about your RA. Heck, the workout you described would make MY feet painful and swollen.
Heal quickly. You've had enough bad-health energy already.

Yep. I believe I'm done with fencing. And due for a quick trip to the rheumatologist. Woe is me.
