Making a plan

to write or not
You may recall that more than a year went by with me barely blogging, thanks in part to massive upheaval in my personal life. (Pretty much all for the good too - I mean, I'm really in the best relationship I've ever had now, and I'm happy most of the time, which is pretty darned great. But I digress.) And then, on December 20, 2012, I decided to start blogging regularly again, in hopes that it might help me start writing regularly again, too.

And it seems like it's starting to work. I have not put up a blog post every single day since December 20th, but I've come rather close. And the decision to find my way back to writing daily - by which I mean writing poems and/or stories - by writing blog posts daily seems to be working.

I've started thinking about some new projects, and have written a poem that I happen to like a lot. Plus I've been working on two new picture book projects.

And I've started thinking about finding my way back into that young adult romance novel I sort of abandoned when life got hectic. The one that is 5 chapters from being done, and involves me writing original songs, too.

Turns out that sometimes, it's as simple as making a plan. Making a plan to blog every day, or to sit down for at least half an hour to write. Or both. And yeah, the planning sounds simple, even if the execution isn't always easy, or even possible. But it's worth trying.

How's your writing going?

Sometimes making a plan is just the thing to get moving, and I'm so glad you're back to blogging here and dreaming up new projects. I've been trying to get back to blogging on LJ too--off I go to post!

While "the best-laid plans of mice and men/oft gang agley", I find that if it's truly a planned activity, I have a much better chance of getting to it than if it's not really on the list and I figure I'll do it if I get some spare time.

Glad to see you blogging more, too!

It's my plan, too, to breathe new life into my blog. It's not yet dead, but close. I aim to revive it! :)

The bar takes a LOT of prep time. The writing will still be there when you're done.

Huh. I could have written this post. Except it's only been a 5-6 month lapse for me. And I too have recently decided I need to just Get On With It, make a plan, and get back to things.

I feel so SO much better reading that plans do work! Way to be inspirational. Thanks. :)

You're welcome. As I said, though, the follow-through isn't always easy!

Hey! Where'd my earlier comment go!? Well, I came back to fix it since I wrote; I'm glad you're "writing" instead of "blogging." But they're both writing anyway, right? Either way, the internet ate my comment, so...what was I saying again?

Oh, yeah--yay!

Good for you :)

My writing's going well. Especially since I banned myself from playing Spider Solitaire until I finish Abraham Lincoln Stole my Homework :)

Hooray for Kelly! Five more chapters to go!

I'm in what feels like endless revision mode, but I'm very pleased with the results.

*smooch*

Once I pick it back up again, there are five chapters to go. And THEN I can start endless revision mode!

Glad you're enjoying the process!

How's your writing going?
I'm always pleased when I "do things" that my more serious writer friends do, too. I mean, it feels like I might be on the right track, doing the right thing. The WRITE thing!

I, too, have been doing a lot of planning lately as well. And similarly, trying to map things out. Part of my plan required me to finish some things that were easy distractions. We (MJ and I) finished the second season of Boardwalk Empire. And I finished Ken Burn's JAZZ. The latter, especially, opens up that "space" in the evening for me to write, edit or sketch.

And the full moon this month seemed to be a "good one" where I was feeling more inspired than crazy. Although closer we get to it, I'm still feeling the inspiration vibes only it's overloading my head so I'm kinda scrambled.

But hopefully, things will get back into a groove.

My mom sorta "laid a challenge" for me when we were talking about this next project. She said, "so, will this one rhyme, too?" I had originally thought prose. The last one was based on song so poetry was a given. But I seemed to have "set myself up" as something as a poet with PLACE. I just don't know. I am starting it as a poem, now. So, we'll see.

I would like to call upon your expert advice and editorial skills, again. Hopefully, we can talk about some payment, barter or something...

I am more than happy to be of assistance. And I'm sure we can figure something out! Glad to hear your back at work on a new project!!
