I'm trying to figure out what they meant to say, and failing. I just can't. The mind, it boggles.

It is nonsensical. And it's obvious that nobody knew quite what the meaning of "smite" is, and they all deferred to whoever proposed it. The blind leading the blind.

Obviously, none of them knew what it meant, and it didn't occur to anyone to look up the word, despite knowing they were using a word they didn't really KNOW.

*imagines them redoing the Salt N Pepa song as "Aw, smite it. Smite it good. Smite it REAL good."*

Liquid metal makes me think they meant to say "smelt" but I'm not sure that makes sense, either. *confused*

You are the second person to mention the possibility that "smelt" was used (the other was on FB), and I think it's entirely possible, because you smelting has to do with metal and also has the word "melt" in it, as in cheese. Only it doesn't really work, either. And somewhere along the way, someone who thought it was the past tense of "smell" and/or a sort of fish changed it to "smite." Maybe.
