It's the final countdown

Rupert Penry-Jones as Wentworth
Which, unfortunately, has summoned this to mind:

You're welcome.

What I meant by my subject line was that I have reached the final stretch of prepping the house for sale, which has included a lot of decluttering and cleaning. There is still a bit more to be done, of course, but soon (as in 10 days hence), I will be meeting with the realtor and getting the house listed for sale.

Friends, I do not feel ready.

Allow me to clarify: I am emotionally ready. I am just not done all the stuff that needs to be finished, and so I have made a list for this week, which my sweetheart and I are attempting to execute, so that we can go through another extensive list for next week, and see what can be done.

We are waiting for people to move stuff out of my house (things going to storage for the kids, pieces being taken by friends), and trying to figure out how to get more things that need to be disposed of gone, while still allowing us to stage the house for sale. And we have started moving things to my sweetheart's house. Not a trip takes place but that something moves, even if it's something small like hangers. Or serving bowls.

But still . . . so much to do. And I really just want it to be done, because I am, apparently, impatient. (Those of you who know me well probably just spit coffee or tea onto their monitors, because DUH, probably everyone knows I'm impatient. But still!)

My current goal is to remain calm and focused, and not to start spinning in circles senselessly. More meditation might help. And/or more wine. And remembering that this craziness is temporary, and that the ultimate goal (moving) will help me to follow my annual goal for this year, which is to do more of what makes me happy.

Now might be a good time for me to pass along some words of wisdom a friend often shares with me: "It takes as long as it takes." ;-)

True. But I really do want this to be moving along. Now that the lists are made and some things have been listed on Craigslist (we'll see if anyone cares or if they end up at Goodwill anyhow), I am feeling a bit more grounded. Staying grounded is a big help.

Good luck!

Uh, why are you thinking of selling and moving in the winter? If it's not too late to change your plans, please reconsider your timing.

I moved once in the winter--because I had to; that's when the lease started--and it was miserable. And it certainly wasn't as bad a winter as this one. Icy roads, putting everything in storage because I had to be out of my old place by December 30 and couldn't move into the new place until January 2. (No one moves you on a holiday.)

And from the point of view of selling your house, no one wants to look at houses or to move in the winter. You won't get as many people looking, and you won't get as good a price. Spring is the prime season for real estate.

It's a self-imposed deadline, so I could change it if need be. But I really want to get going, and I'm hoping that if things go well, that will be SOON!

The realtor I spoke with says that lots of families who are moving kids start looking in February and March, so I think that listing it in February (the plan) makes sense. We shall see what happens. But thank you for the advice AND the concern, Barb!!

Gads, honey--you've BEEN patient!! This process has been going on for quite some time. You're in the final stretch, and it's exciting! It's not impatience, but anticipation you feel.

Doesn't that sound MUCH better? :-P

I don't blame you for being impatient. I know I would be. Hang in there! You're almost done. =)

You can't push the river, it's said, but yay! The time has finally come to leave the safety of the riverbank. Wishing you more wheeee than whoa as you ride the currents, in the direction of your dreams. xoxo
