I'm a children's writer. Then again, I could define myself as a children's poet: So far, I've had poems published in Highlights for Children magazine, the following anthologies: Summer Shorts, Breaking Waves, and Mountain Magic: Spellbinding Tales of Appalachia, and in the book Write Your Own Poetry by Laura Purdie Salas. I'll stick with "writer," however, because my first-ever picture book, At the Boardwalk, is due out in 2012. I've also written a few picture book manuscripts, two easy reader manuscripts, and a chapter book tentatively entitled Garden Gnomes Gone Wild. My current WIPs include a second gnomish chapter book, a collection of Shakespeare-related poems for teens and a biography of Jane Austen in verse using period forms for the YA market.
I'm also a mother (some would say in more ways than one, but I digress). I have 2 lovely girls, who alternate between wonderful and, well, let's just say "not". Teenagers: "can't live with 'em, pass the beernuts" (quoting Norm from Cheers). I've been married for about 7 years to someone I've been friends with for almost 22 years. Consider us late bloomers.
