Gregor on my mind

Yeah, I'm ripping off a Ray Charles song title now. But still, it's true.

I've very much enjoyed all of the books in The Underland Chronicles by Suzanne Collins, beginning with Gregor the Overlander, then following with Gregor and the Prophecy of Bane, Gregor and the Curse of the Warmbloods, and Gregor and the Marks of Secret.

All of them feature the adventures of a boy from New York City named Gregor (and usually, his baby sister Boots as well), as they engage in quests and derring-do miles below the city, in the Underland (founded, naturally, in the 1600s when a group of British immigrants thought the world was going to end and made their way to the Underland, where they've built colonies). If you haven't read them yet, by all means, start now, because the final book, Gregor and The Code of Claw comes out in May. And look -- it's purple!

Here's the copy about the book on Amazon:

Everyone in the Underland has been taking great pains to keep the new prophecy, The Prophecy of Time, from Gregor. Gregor knows it must say something awful but he never imagined just how awful: It calls for the warrior's death. Now, with an army of rats approaching, Gregor's mom and his sister still in Regalia, Gregor the warrior must gather up his courage to help defend Regalia and get his family home safely. The entire existence of the Underland is in Gregor's hands, and time is running out. There is a code to be cracked, a mysterious new princess, and a queen who wants control.

The book is supposed to be available May 1, 2007.

They totally ROCK. They are my 3rd-favorite fantasy series for kids (okay, my 4th if I add LOTR in the mix, but it's for older kids, really, so I won't)

I put Harry Potter and the Percy Jackson series (The Lightning Thief et al) above Gregor. And I put Charlie Bone just after it. And no, I haven't read Bartimaeus, nor did I make it through the Golden Compass (I know, I know -- most folks love it).

That's a cool premise and all...underground of NYC since before the "birth of this nation"....

It's very cool. And there's a hierarchy akin to royalty down there, and a bunch of prophesies dealing with an Overlander who turns out to be their hero (and turns out to be an 11-13 year old boy named Gregor).

well, when HP is finally killed off in one of them films, here's another to follow in it's hit-making footsteps...seems like it's got the potential!
