Surf's up!

Or not. Really, I don't care. It's not as if I'm actually going in the water today. And if I do, it wouldn't be past my ankles.

I am, however, driving to Ocean City to partake of the sun and the sand and the boardwalk. I feel a need for salt air and salt water taffy. (Little-known fact - salt water taffy is not made using salt water. I saw a whole program on the Food Network once upon a time. Plus, if you go to Schriver's taffy shop - and, if you're in O.C. N.J., you should - you can learn the story there as well.) And caramel corn, for which you want Johnson's. And hey, if you can't get to Ocean City, NJ, both of those places have websites and will ship to you. (I do not recommend shipping fudge - it melts in hot weather. Although Steel's Fudge will ship it.

The sad thing is, I could continue to name excellent food products available at the boardwalk. Ice cream (I like Kohr Bros. frozen custard), pizza, monkey bread, and more. It's insane. And insanely delicious. I'm looking forward to a day of watching the waves of water and people, and getting some fresh air. The girls are looking forward to a day of beach time and probably some of the snacks as well.

Wherever you are this weekend, I hope it brings fair weather and tasty snacks.

Oh my gosh, Kelly, I wanna go! I miss the ocean. I grew up near it in the Bay Area and the Santa Cruz boardwalk and taffy shops, but don't get to see much living in NM.

And salt water taffy - one of my absolute FAVS in the whole world! I'm so envious!!!

Have a wonderful day!

I got a great assortment of taffy at Shriver's - I'm trying some new flavors, like sour apple and hazelnut, along with my long-time favorites (chocolate, vanilla, orange, teaberry, rootbeer, spearmint, cinnamon, etc.)

Glad to hear there are boardwalks and taffy shops out west - I suppose I never gave it that much thought before, but it makes me happy to know they aren't just a central East Coast thing!

Kelly, this post is a serious threat to my diet.

Have fun and WAVE to the ocean for me.

The ocean WAVED back!

Sorry. I didn't even mention the funnel cakes and monkey bread and boardwalk fries in the post.

We have Kohr Bros. here, strangely enough. I know it's a chain, but most of them seem to be in beach areas, and ours is totally not at the beach. In fact, it's a block from the elementary school on a major highway and on 5 cent cone day the kids usually get to go with their classes.

Have an excellent snacky day.

I got a wee bit of fudge and some taffy at Shriver's, then had a slice of pizza at Mack & Manko's (an Ocean City favorite for most people, though it is not, strictly speaking, the best pizza in the world).

I was gonna say, you better be getting some Johnson's popcorn! It's best when it's hot.

Yum! And have fun :)

I love Johnson's popcorn! But in the end, I didn't get any today. I got a bit of fudge and taffy and a slice at Mack & Manco's, and now I feel like a whale, even though (strictly speaking) I didn't eat all that much.

That's still a good day :)

My son has been to Ocean City--but not me. Wah!!! I want taffy. And popcorn. Two of the universe's best foods. Have an awesome day!

I really love Ocean City, New Jersey. I spent happy weeks there when I was a kid, but these days a week in O.C. costs more than taking the entire family to Disney World for a week. Ridiculous.

It was a bit overcast, but I managed to get sun on my face (despite sunscreen and my wide-brimmed hat).

I LOVE Kohrs! Yum...do they still have the peanut butter chocolate twist dipped in chocolate shell??? I might be drooling right now.

They do indeed still have chocolate and peanut butter available as a twist. I tend to prefer the orange and vanilla twist . . . mmmm, creamsicle.

Several of my major arteries have been clogged by Kohr Bros. peanut butter custard.

It's an entirely understandable decision on your part.

Speaking of decisions - I had no idea you'd decided to do a library event here in my town in July until M and I were there this afternoon and saw signs! And bookmarks! And endcaps full of Lubar titles!

Total dropping of the ball on my part. I know, at some point, I told myself I should mention it to you.

Hope you had a fantastic day! We spent a weekend in Ocean City last year at this time, and it was so much fun. I think my favorite boardwalk treat is a Kohr Bros vanilla-chocolate twist, but I'm also a fan of boardwalk fries...

I think one of my favorites is a Kohr Bros orange-vanilla twist, but I forewent it this time around. Another of my favorites is Johnson's popcorn, but I passed on that as well. I got some taffy, though, because I really won't eat all that much of it at any one setting. :)
