Five Things on a Friday

Busy. Busy busy busy. Here are only some of the reasons why:

1. Prom dress shopping for S.

2. Laundry and packing for our quick trip to South Carolina - the girls and I leave for Charleston early Sunday morning and come back next Wednesday. On Monday we'll be touring the College of Charleston on a private tour with an undergrad organized by my brother (since the Admissions tours were full up and unable to accommodate us). S has enrolled there already, but has never seen the campus, and I'm hoping this will help nip any "buyer's remorse" in the bud.

3. Starting up that new health regimen, complete with tai chi and yoga classes.

4. Planning for various other upcoming trips, including two different writing retreats, the NESCBWI Conference and BEA (my lovely publisher sent me a pass/ticket/thingummy). All of which nestles in there with S's prom and is rapidly followed by her graduation from high school.

5. Writing and reading - not always in that order. Sometimes what I'm writing is critiques of things for friends, sometimes new poems and sometimes my YA romance project. Same goes for reading - manuscripts, finished books, my own stuff (for revision) and, interestingly enough, John Forsythe's speech in the Senate relating to the Indian Removal Act of 1830.

Bonus thing: Tomorrow I will be spending some time at the Book Festival in Philadelphia, both because I want to see Kathy Erskine (and hopefully Kadir Nelson as well), and because I am spending some of my time volunteering at my JASNA region's booth. If it doesn't rain, I'll be wearing my Regency ball gown. If it does, I shan't, because I made my gown from actual silk, and it has a velvet cape (with a train!) that will not fare well in the wet. For Philly area folks, I'll be at the JASNA booth from 12-1 for sure.

Mmm! That would be AWESOME. Almost as awesome as if we could go see Pirates 4 together. (you could wear your ball gown!)

You're one busy lady. Have fun!
And I hope your daughter is thrilled with her choice of schools.

Thanks, Lorraine. S was fine with her choice at first, but has had time to get nervous about it now. Seeing the campus and meeting some students should help quite a bit.

Where and when will you be there? Or should I just run around hollering "Marco" until you "Polo" back at me?

While that would be highly amusing, I'll be in booth 45, East Coast Authors. We don't have a sign, but we'll be on 19th street.

Marco!

I'm not entirely positive what day I'll be there, although Tuesday is a likely possibility . . .

Regency gown!!!

Re: prom dresses, I'm not normally a big JC Penney fan but I had to get a dress for a formal even last minute last week and they were having a ridiculous sale. I got a really cute dress for $24! May be worth a look...?

I'll have to see whether S will even CONSIDER going to such a place. We were lucky and got M's dress for sophomore cotillion at Lord & Taylor's on mega-sale - $49. Even with new shoes, the total tab came in under $90. It was wonderful!
