Well hello, Chapter 19!

You guys! Even though I am sick as a dog (whatever that means), I have managed to finish my first draft of Chapter 18. Which means that I am now on Chapter 19. Technically. I mean, I opened a new Scrivener file for the chapter and typed "CHAPTER NINETEEN" at the top of the page, so it means the chapter is underway, right?

I. Am. Excited! Let me count the ways:

1. I am within five chapters of "The End", since the outline goes to Chapter 23. (Immediate renumbering based on my own weird refusal to change the outline until the first draft is done will come in at Chapter 26, and splitting some of the way-too-long chapters will mean still more chapters exist, but I am pretending I can't hear that!)

2. The manuscript is currently just over 51,000 words. That is more than double the length of the longest thing I've written before now.

3. I am still in love with my characters - and becoming even more so as the book nears its conclusion.

4. The shit is about to hit the fan, y'all, and I CAN'T WAIT! *rubs hands in glee*

5. I might just have another song - or even two - to write. And I find I really enjoy writing songs. Songs that make people cry, even.

Tell me how your own writing or art is going.

I'm sorry you're still feeling sick, but glad you're well enough to be excited about your work!!

I love this project. And a couple of first readers have had peeks at early chapters, and they're in love with my characters, which feeds the excitement as well.

Go, go, go, girl!

It is so fantastic that you still love your characters! That's one of the things that made revising StT so much fun for me--I got to spend more time with these kids.

This was mostly a week off writing for me. Mostly I've spent time with BD and HH, but I've also cleared my ancient desktop out of my office and reconfigured the space a touch, so I have more writing surfaces.

However, I have started sketching on a new project and reached the point yesterday morning when my new MC started to click. Because right now, I can't imagine living without other voices in my head....

Your icon made me laugh (well, honk, really, followed by extreme coughing, but still . . . )

I love my characters, and am looking forward to loving yours as well (I'm behind, thanks to being ill. Woe. This weekend looks relatively open, however.)

Hooray for adding more voices into your head! (That only makes sense to writers, I think.)

Yay, congratulations! I'm only about 17k into my current project, and waiting for feedback on another completed project. I want to get the new one drafted by the end of the summer, and the old one queried (again) by then as well. =) Have fun with your characters and may their drama be ever so exciting.

Their drama should be quite dramatic indeed. Good luck with your projects!!

Yayyy! Being in love with your book and only 5 chapters left is an AMAZING place to be. I'm so excited for you! And if you ever want another reader, I'd be happy to read for you too.

I've had a much-needed week off and should be getting copyedits on Monday. They're due Thurs, I believe, and then my book will be *gulp* finished. I'm simultaneously delighted & terrified. And also excited to have some free time in July to see theatre & drink beer & catch up on the rest of life that I've sadly neglected for the last 3 crazy months!

Don't forget to start the next book, too!

Thanks for the offer to read - I may end up taking you up on it!
