Dear Journal

I have not forgotten you. I promise. It's just that real life has been requiring quite a lot of my attention lately. I don't really have time to go into detail on everything just now, nor am I convinced that you'd find it all interesting, but I promise to catch up with you very soon.

Let's see if I can bring you a little bit more up-to-date, though, m'kay?

Health My back is still not all the way better, although it is much improved. And my reactive airway issue is not all the way better yet, either, although it is also much improved. I did, however, pay a second visit to Dr. Tall Dark & Handsome in order to get a scrip for blood work, to figure out why I keep getting spectacular bruises from who-knows-what. (Last week, the undersides of both my upper arms looked as if I'd been grabbed - hard - causing two friends to ask if I was being abused. No abuse, and no clue what those marks were from. Perhaps I was abducted by aliens?) Anyhoo - bloodwork is now being processed, and we shall see what we see. (Fortunately, both Google and my doctor tell me that I don't have any of the other symptoms for some of the scarier possibilities for unexplained bruising - like leukemia and lymphoma.)

On the up side: I've been to the gym 7 out of the last 8 days. Five of those visits were for tai chi classes (often I go early to do get a walk in first), but two of them were on the weekend, where I walked and tried cycling (my knees gave me crap about that choice afterward) and also practiced tai chi in the studio. Turns out I've inadvertently learned all the moves to the Yang short form (aka "the first paragraph" of 36 moves - see why it's such a good fit for writerly me?). I haven't finished being instructed in the first paragraph, however - what it means is that I know what to do, although my form might not yet be right because I need the teacher to make sure I'm doing things properly. Still, I expect to have it down sometime soon. Maybe even by the start of August.

Writing I continue to work apace on projects about which I can't really tell you just yet. Sorry about that, but suffice it to say that (1) it's keeping me exceedingly busy and (2) I hope it will be Very Good News that I can share Sometime Soon.

Kids We're getting S ready to head to college in just a few weeks' time (eep!), and M has become extremely active this summer, which necessitates quite a lot of time in the car for me, carting her (and her friends) hither, thither & yon.

Other stuff There are some other big changes afoot here at home as well. There's Kismet, the kitten, who is already significantly larger than when we found her. She is still adorable and sweet and all things good that a kitten can be. And there's Wally, the dog, who will be moving out next week with his favorite person, leaving this house an all-female zone. It is indeed a time of great change here at my casa, and with great change comes great distraction, I'm afraid.

I've been governing myself by the Shakespeare in Love principle this year (at least, that's how I think of it). It's drawn from a conversation that is repeated more than once during the movie, this being one of them:

Philip Henslowe: Mr. Fennyman, allow me to explain about the theatre business. The natural condition is one of insurmountable obstacles on the road to imminent disaster.

Hugh Fennyman: So what do we do?

Philip Henslowe: Nothing. Strangely enough, it all turns out well.

Hugh Fennyman: How?

Philip Henslowe: I don't know. It's a mystery.

I continue to believe that all will turn out well in the end - and to trust the Universe, which keeps sending me the things I most need this year. How does it know? It's a mystery. But it will all turn out well.

As yours is the only LJ I was able to comment on today, I've decided that it is KISMET that you recieve this hug.

Kismet is actually being a bit of a terror today. Silly kitten. But thank you.

Wow. You slipped that "other stuff" in very subtly. M and I send you good wishes. At least there's a hint of good stuff in there, too.

Your very optimistic outlook will be a big help in sorting out those changes.

Tulips upon you.

I am clever that way. Thanks for the good wishes - and yes, despite lots of rocky news, I have been actually quite happy lately. Perhaps strange, but definitely true.

Thanks, Jo. Truly, things are going well here, if a bit hectic. It's all positive change, but even positive change comes with a bit of stress. (I'll take you up on that phone call offer soon!)

Hey there...
I'm trying to get caught up from The Great LJ Outage of 2011. Yeesh! Sounds like you've got a LOT going on, not all of it "good" for now, even if it's good for long term. I'm sending some positive energy your way. Hang in there. You're doing great!

I misread "The Great LJ Outage" as "The Great LJ Outrage of 2011", which seems more appropriate somehow.

Everything is going to turn out well in the end - my husband has moved out and the paperwork is underway to disband the marriage - all of which is amicable, so that's good. And while there's still a lot of stress in my life, it really, truly is going to be okay.
