Various and sundry notes

On leaf removal

Dear neighbors:

I know you believe your leaf blower is saving you time and effort, but it's really only saving you from getting blisters. I mean, you've been disturbing the peace for four hours already, and you only have two trees on your property - how bad can your directional abilities be? And the god-awful droning noise is settling into my forehead like an oppressive headache. To the extent I care to hear any leaf-removal sounds, I really prefer the scritch-scritch of rakes. Please can you go back to that?

On Snickerdoodles

Dear ravensgate:

Your recipe for Snickerdoodles rocks. They have proven to be exceptionally popular with the important people in my life, and I just wanted to thank you (again) for sending the recipe my way.

On kittens

Dear Kismet:

You are adorable, and I know you know that. And hey - you're in heat, I get it. But these recent hell-bent-on-mischief sprees of yours have got to stop, or you will be spending some hard time in the upstairs bathroom.

I'd feel worse about locking you in there, but it holds your food, water, and litterbox, and you seem to think the bathtub is the Best Kitty Playground Ever, so . . . pretty much, I don't feel too badly, all in all. Still, it'd be nice if you'd behave.

Dear blog readers,

Got any notes you'd like to share?

I'm glad to see you wore your Sunday hat.

Hi Melodye!

TOTALLY agree with you on leaf blowing, it's my all-time least-favorite most-annoying noise .... I recommend heavy-duty earplugs! (I buy them in bulk at Target in the pharmacy section) (This week I was driven to consider investing in those expensive noise-reduction headphones as well)

May have to do that. Or blare some music. In the meantime, I'm off to the grocery store for a brief break (and a different kind of craziness).

LOL -- our neighbors decided to use their leaf blower on the windiest day of the year to date -- simply regifting their leaves to all their neighbors a little fast than the wind was doing it.

And leaf blowers use energy and don't help you burn as many calories!

I believe my two neighbors (both males in their 70s) believe this is less strenuous. I have discovered, however, that the noise makes me seriously irritable and anxious, as in raising adrenaline/cortisol levels, because when I left to run errands, it turned out I was suddenly fine and relatively happy. Came home to whine/drone and became stressed. Took a shower (couldn't hear them) and was fine, got out when the nearest neighbor was on break and was still fine - then he turned it back on and I became stressed again. I'm gonna have to get some ear plugs.

I believe that standing relatively still with their noise machine is less taxing on their hearts than actual raking. And I know that they both have heart issues, so I guess I understand the choice. But yeesh!

(The guy who cuts the grass/clears the leaves for me can clear my entire lot of leaves in about an hour. The guy next door has fewer trees and fewer leaves, and he spent something like 8 hours out there today with his whiny machine. And when more leaves fall - and they will - he'll do it again.)

Both of my neighbors have electric ones with loooooong extension cords. I gave serious thought to cutting the cord on the one to my left today, as my stress levels mounted and I became something approaching homicidal . . .

If I were going to write a note right now, I would write, "Dear Girlfriend of My Ex, It is never okay to slam the mother of your boyfriend's child on social media. XO." But then, I didn't have to read it, I suppose, right? :)

Hope you have a very happy Thanksgiving!

Hope you have a very happy Thanksgiving, too!

I hate it when people use leaf blowers and lawn mowers between 7am and 9 am on a Saturday! I mean, really? Can't we have one day we can sleep in? Apparently not. *sighs*

Kelly, you are very welcome for the recipe. (I changed my username.) *hugs back*

Well, I love the cookies, and my boyfriend especially loved them - so thanks again!!

No leafblowers around here-- except wind. Hope things have (literally) quieted for your holiday!:D
