Pitch Perfect

Last night, M and I went to see the movie Pitch Perfect, which opened last weekend. As a voice major and huge fan of a cappella singing and shows like The Sing-Off, I was psyched to watch so much singing. Also, I'm a sucker for musicals, which this is, in a way, even though not in the "I'm sad so I'm gonna SING" way that old-school musicals are.

Anna Kendrick proves once again what a talent she is - and she was matched by the considerable talent (and cuteness) of Skylar Astin, and backed by a rock-solid cast including the always funny Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, Anna Camp, Ester Dean (brilliant - and I don't recall seeing her before) and Hana Mae Lee (ditto - her character was so quiet that you had to read her barely moving lips to figure out her lines, most of which were scandalous in one way or another).

My favorite funny bits (and there were MANY from which to choose) probably involved the off-color color commentary between Elizabeth Banks and John Michael Higgins, some of which you can see in Banks's interview with Conan O'Brien, below, starting around the 2:30 mark:

I would actually consider seeing this one again. If not in theatres, then for sure when it comes out on DVD. Because it is hilarious.

i'd love to see this movie!
John Michael Higgins is one of my favorite actors. Have you ever seen the Christopher Guest movie, "A Mighty wind?" Hysterical!

I adore that movie. And the music as well. Although "a mighty wind is blowin', and it's blowin' you and me" makes me guffaw, every time. (Including when that's all I sing.) And the sweet song by the duo was just . . . sweet.

I also loved John Michael Higgins in Best in Show. And in Fred Claus.

She's really funny. She should have a talk show.
