Seven Things on a Saturday

1. We are battening down the hatches - or would be, if we had hatches - in preparation for the confluence of Hurricane Sandy and the unnamed storm from the West, both of which are coming to meet up with a massive cold front from Canada. Where I live appears to be directly in the middle of Sandy's projected path (come Sunday night into Monday), so good wishes for continued power are most welcome.

2. Speaking of storms, I may be walking in one tomorrow morning, although I'm hoping the rain holds off. The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk is tomorrow morning, and I'll be plodding trudging walking the 3.5 miles or so with my sweetheart, come rain or come shine. You can still donate online, if'n you'd like.

3. I picked up a copy of Mary Oliver's latest poetry collection, A Thousand Mornings, the other day, and am savoring my way through it.

4. I've been enjoying some new music: Mumford & Sons, The Killers, and Taylor Swift, all of which have come home in the past few weeks.

5. My sweetheart and I are planning a trip in the near future, and I'm very excited about it. More on that anon.

6. I have a bit of poison ivy on my left palm. Those of you who remember my hospitalization two years ago when poison ivy became cellulitis became MRSA will understand why that freaks me out more than it might the average bear. Oh compromised immune system, what shenanigans are you up to now?

7. I signed up for Picture Book Idea Month over at Tara Lazar's blog.

You're right there, aren't you? I am happy Sandy is veering north for my own sake, but that's rather selfish of me. I hope you all weather her easily.

By the way, this is Anne Marie but I can't remember my password.

I'm happy you missed Sandy - you really didn't want to meet her.

Well, it certainly looks and acts like poison ivy, since it's little patches of raised, bumpy, itchy spots, and it's almost only on my left hand, including the patch smack in the center of my palm. (There's a small spot at the base of my thumb on the inside-of-the-wrist side on my right hand.) It is, however, starting to dry up, which is good. And Kismet is strictly indoors, so I can't blame her. Wish I knew for certain where I picked it up!

I hope the storm isn't as bad as they're making it sound -- and stay dry tomorrow! :)

(Good thoughts for the poison ivy too...)

The storm was every bit as bad as they made it sound, but we lucked out and avoided any real damage.

And the poison ivy appears to be drying up, although I'm still not positive how I got it.

Funny, I feel like I live quite far away from you until something like this happens...from the perspective of a hurricane you're pretty much down the street! Here's hoping the power stays on and we just get an interesting show.

We're not far apart at all, really - it just feels that way. We were lucky to avoid any real damage!

Kelly hope you stay safe in the storm and no more poison ivy problems.

I'm reading Mary Oliver's new book with you. That's drama enough. xo

Thanks, Jeannine. The storm didn't cause any real damage here at my house, thankfully.

And I am enjoying the Oliver book. You?
