Setting up my writing room

One of the really exciting things about my upcoming move is that the small bedroom at my beloved sweetheart's house is going to be my writing room. After all these years, I finally have a room of my own. I am beyond happy about it.

So far, it has been painted a lovely, pale blue called Blue Opal, my desk has moved in to an alcove that is perfect for it, and a small bookcase has moved in to hold my author copies and some other choice books. There is, of course, a bed in the room as well, since the room has to do double duty as a guest room, but we will soon replace the single bed with a daybed, which will look much more couch-like (I think) in the usual course of things. I will share pictures of it when I get it done.

In the meantime, here is what moved into my writing room today:

2014 Calendar with art by Pamela Zagarenski and texts from Rumi and Hafiz, available online

Isn't it pretty?

It is definitely time for you to have a room of your own. Wonderful writing will happen in it. I look forward to the picture!

I am enjoying setting it up. Still need to bring a few items in and hang things, but it is starting to be a workable space. (As in, I wrote a new PB draft there last week!)

Your writing room sounds lovely! I can't wait to see pictures of it. I think the day bed sounds perfect. You could put some lovely throw pillows on it too. =)

The calendar is pretty.

I am looking forward to getting the whole room together. In the meantime, I'm enjoying the process. And I've already drafted a picture book there, so I'm feeling it's a good creative space!

Good things!
What a wonderful milestone, Kelly! I can't wait to see a picture. :) That calendar looks gorgeous, I'm tempted to get one for my office! Good things!

Re: Good things!
The calendar is really pretty throughout, and is really high quality paper, and it came gorgeously packaged, so I recommend it. (Though it was a bit of a spendy treat, I must say!)

I am hoping so, Melodye. It will be nice to have a designated space just for writing. My sweetheart is pretty adamant that I have it, too. Love him.

I had to give up my room when baby came along. Someday I'll get it back. How wonderful you have your room. Next up: 5 guineas per year.

(I hope the universe doesn't misunderstand that as 5 guinea hens per year ... which would be fun, but louder than anything.)

Hey, Patricia illustrated Mary Logue's book! How awesome is that! I should get that calendar.

You will indeed get it back. Meanwhile, I hope you have at least a corner of your own. And thanks for the clarification on the guineas, because I do NOT want guinea fowl, and definitely not to accumulate them at the rate of 5 per year!!

The calendar is remarkably pretty and has marvelous quotes throughout. It was a present for myself, and came beautifully packaged, but it's definitely a splurge for a calendar!

I am really looking forward to switching the bed from what it is to a daybed, which will feel more couch-like, I think. At present, the bed is holding several piles of CYBILS poetry books, as I sort and sift my thoughts on which ones should be on my short list.
