It's the little things

It's the little things that are on my mind right now. Like all the supplies in my bathroom vanity and medicine cabinet. And all the teacups. And wineglasses. Etcetera, etcetera. (Always hear that in Yul Brynner's voice from The King and I, with a big arm gesture.)

Yesterday, I decided to go through the bathroom stuff, some of which has to stay here until we make the move. Some of it had to be tossed, of course. And some of it is in a bin to be carted to my sweetheart's house and put away there later today, after I go through the vanities and medicine cabinets there, getting rid of what needs to go.

It's a small step, but it's something that needs to be done that will streamline things come actual moving time.

On Saturday, I called a realtor and set up a meeting in January. I will talk to one or two more, of course, but I picked this one first because she left a note on my door about two weeks ago saying if I ever wanted to sell, to call her - she grew up in this house as a little girl. Maybe you don't believe in signs, but I do, so I called her first. Because sometimes the Universe is looking out for you, and you have to go with it.

Just yesterday, I set up the appointment to have new carpet installed in the family room. I can't sell the house in good conscience with what is there, it having survived the decline of my sweet old dog, Katie, as well as a bunch of time with a partially incontinent and partially paralyzed Wally (who moved out with my ex). Better to replace it now for a reasonable price than to have to give a large credit at closing, is what I figure.

And now, I'm off to pack up a few of those teacups, to move into the corner cupboard we have already carted to my sweetheart's house and set up in our dining room. Each of these little moves is a recognition that this is real, and that I am leaving this house in the not-too-distant future. And it feels surprisingly good!
