Weekend report, or why I now need a day off

It turned out to be a highly social weekend this weekend. We started early, even, celebrating my pseudo-grandson's 14th birthday on Friday, complete with a birthday "cake" made up of Pringles cans. You see, grandson doesn't like actual cake, and thanks to an offhand comment he made months ago about wishing he could just have Sour Cream and Onion Pringles, well . . . Here's what happened:

He had extreme difficulty when he tried to cut the cake, and was extremely pleased to scrape the whipped topping off the outside and unwrap the Pringles cans. My sweetheart, our granddaughter, and I all had actual cake while the boy ate his chips. And all was well.

On Saturday, we went to a barbecue in Pennsylvania, which was a really good time. (And really excellent food!) I love spending time with friends, and it was a perfect day for it. The weather was warm but not too hot, their back yard was shaded but bug-free, and the local birds provided plenty of entertainment (as if the conversation weren't enough!)

Yesterday I spent most of the day in the kitchen doing lots of prep work in advance of dinner with my sweetheart's cousins here, interspersed with time spent picking up rooms in the house and a bit of dusting. Macaroni salad, cucumber salad, slicing and marinating zucchini in dressing (for the grill), then making a marinade and cutting up chicken to be marinated (also for the grill), then cutting up canteloupe. When it came time for dinner, there was little for me to do except hand stuff off to my sweetheart to grill and pull bowls out of the fridge to put on the table. But man, it was a busy day. And we had a nice, long visit with the cousins, which was really and truly excellent.

All of the weekend's goings-on means that I got no planning done for this week (usually a Sunday thing), and no writing done either (usually I manage at least a bit on the weekend), so I am feeling just a bit behind at the moment. Also? All that being social means that now I kind of want to be a bit of a hermit for a day or two. It's what happens when introverts spend too much time being social. (Not that "too much" doesn't have to be especially a lot, oddly enough.)

How was your weekend? Did it leave you rested and raring to go, or do you need a weekend to get over it?

I'm lucky that I only had to 'socialize' minimally this weekend -- and only with my parents ;) Like you, I tire quickly of tons of social activity (even with family). I hope you get some lovely time alone to recup :)

I know exactly what you mean. I ended up taking a massive nap this afternoon, which was obviously needed. Still not "with it" enough to get real work accomplished, but I'm just letting it go at this point. And possibly singing the song from FROZEN.

It was GREAT to see you. And now that it's Friday, I'm nearly back to normal. (There was a barbecue I had to go to for my synagogue on Wednesday, so my recovery was interrupted. LOL.)
