Some quotations found in quiet moments

Quiet moments are often hard to be found at this time of year, at least for a lot of people, but they can usually be found (or created) when needed. At least, I hope that's been the case for all of you.

Here are a few of the things that have caught my eye between the holidays and a week-long plague (a rather horrible head cold that has kept me down for the count).

1. Benedict Cumberbatch was interviewed in PEOPLE Magazine, the December 7th issue. He says he likes to stay in:

"I'm a homebody," he says. "I love to stay in at night, light a fire, have a whiskey and watch a movie or read a good book. People forget about books. They're always just turning on the television, but reading a good book is the most nourishing thing you can do."

2. Lisa Scottoline's piece in the Sunday Inquirer on December 14th, entitled "Smile, they say. Ha, I reply." tackled the issue of "bitchy resting face", and was great on all points. Here's one I really appreciated:

My face is always at rest.
  Unfortunately, so is my body.
But the psychologists discovered something they called a "bitchy resting face," which gave me pause, as I didn't realize that bitchy was a psychological term.
I also wondered if men could have a "bitchy" resting face.
Or if that was simply called a "face."

You can read the whole essay online at the Inquirer site.
