Catching Up

You guys, I have to tell you what I've been up to.

Well, I don't have to, but I'm going to anyhow. If you're interested, of course.

Here's my timeline:

On Friday, I posted my sestina with the Poetry Princesses here, if you didn't get a chance to read it.

On Saturday morning, I drove into Philadelphia to have lunch with lovely friend (and talented author) Jennifer L. Hubbard. We met for crêpes at a wonderful crêperie, then walked next door to Joseph Fox Bookshop (spell it with me people, "F-O-X"), which is a wonderful independent bookstore. Where I bought the following books, along with a packet of William Morris giftwrap that was near the register:

After a shorter trip to the nearby Barnes & Noble (where I bought nothing this time), we went our separate ways and I headed home, where I made an early dinner for my sweetheart and I because we had evening plans. I KNOW! Crazy!

Not only did we have evening plans, they were back up in Philadelphia. We drove on up and found parking for the Howie Day concert, which was opened by an excellent young talent, Jesse Ruben. Seriously, we could have listened only to him and considered ourselves lucky. Although Howie Day was pretty amazing. More amazing? Howie was only 15 years old when he wrote She Says, which is a truly great tune.

We really enjoyed all the music (and man, it was excellent - Howie Day is a genius at recording and looping stuff, layer on layer). And we enjoyed the other people who joined us at our table: a couple from Buffalo, who came all the way to Philadelphia for the concert, and two sisters, one of whom drove in from Pittsburgh for the concert.

On Sunday, Morris and I went back to Philadelphia yet again, this time by catching the speedline in Cherry Hill, where we attended the Flower Show. We were pleased with ourselves for getting there fairly early, since Sunday was the last day. We had, in fact, planned on going on Thursday, but there was a massive snow storm, so . . . Sunday it was!

The theme this year, for folks outside the immediate area, was Hollywood films. Specifically, Disney films. And many of the displays were completely and totally made of awesome. Also? We bumped into friend and author Jessica Dimuzio, who was there with her husband and some friends. Also-also, we bought this amazing piece of art from Samuel Kim:

On Monday, I wrote my poem for Round One of the March Madness Poetry competition. You can see my poem at Think Kid Think, and if you get there soon, you can vote for it. (Or not.)

On Tuesday, I took myself on my "artist date", which is part of the program under The Artist's Way. For my date this week, I went to see Into the Woods at a local theatre, where the Universe granted me an extra boon by making it $5 movie day, with a $2 small popcorn. Booyah!

Today I, um, got a haircut. Because on this coming Friday, I have the launch for my first-ever chapbook, The Universe Comes Knocking. You are quite welcome to attend, and I sure hope you will. (I hope someone does!)

Oh, and if you could keep Morris in your thoughts this Friday morning, I'd appreciate it - he's having a bit of dental surgery. Nothing is wrong, but still . . . good thoughts welcome.

Tell me what you've been up to?

Yeah, it's been a lot, which is why it took me until today to post about all this stuff.

I wish you could be at the gig, too, but I'm happy for your good wishes!

The boos are lovely. Thay apparently has a series of these books out (or rather, the publisher owned by United Buddhism does). Others included How to Walk, How to Eat, and I'm pretty sure there was at least one more. They are beautiful little books with short lessons and beautiful line drawings.
